Academy Instructors

Si-Hing Jim Hagadone

Si-Hing Jim Hagadone is a level ten gold sash instructor who has been training under Sifu Eric Oram since 1994.

Si-Hing Jim worked as a professional musician and guitar instructor in Florida. In 1990, he came to L.A. to pursue a musical career. When his cousin (Sifu Oram) arrived in '94, he dove head-first into Wing Chun training, assisting and teaching classes and eventually earning his Gold Sash and becoming a full-time instructor.

In addition to extensive and ongoing training with Sifu Oram, he's had the priviledge of learning directly from Grandmaster William Cheung for many years.

Si-Hing Jim has trained with Gokor Chivichyan, Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, and other elite fighters at the Paradise Warrior Retreats.

Si-Hing Hagadone has been a constant fixture at the academy since day one... running classes, assiting Sifu Oram and Grandmaster Cheung in seminars and teaching private clients from all walks of life, including Dhani Harrison (musician and son of Beatle George Harrison), Bokeem Woodbine (actor/musician Dead Presidents/The Sopranos/Devil).

Si-Hing Joseph Perlingiero

Si-Hing Joseph Perlingiero has studied many forms of martial arts since a very young age.

He became expert in boxing, Tae Kwon Do and Jeet Kune Do. He also has extensive background in knife fighting training.

He has trained with (among others) Gokor Chivichyan, Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez and Sifu Eric Oram.

Si-Hing Perlingiero began training in Traditional Wing Chun eight years ago with Sifu-Oram. With his already strong background, he was able to begin training Academy students seven years ago.

Si-Hing Perlingiero emphasizes impact training (learning to follow-through on kicks and punches), technique applications in real life situations and also stresses conditioning (improving endurance and thus learning to relax in stressful situations) in all his classes.

Robert Goodwin - Senior Elder

Robert G. Goodwin's martial arts quest began in the early sixties with an Okinawan system, Shudo-kan karate. His rank was purple belt when he began studying Tang Soo Do, where he was awarded a red (brown) belt after five years. In 1974 he began studying Shao-lin, T'ai Chi Ch'uan and Wing Chun. As there is no belt ranking in traditional Chinese martial arts he was awarded certificates to teach various Shao-lin systems. During the early eighties Goodwin met Sifu James W. DeMile, a student of Bruce Lee. He then studied and taught this system of Wing Chun Do for ten years.

In 1979 he met an internationally known T'ai Chi Ch'uan master, Mr. Ben Lo, and has been following his system the last thirty three years.

Goodwin moved to New York in 1988 and taught stage combat, T'ai Chi and fight directed at Manhattan Class Company.

In 1992 he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a film stunt coordinating and fight training/choreography career. Having twenty seven years of European sword training Goodwin became known as a sword master for film as well. He was fight director for over a hundred theatrical productions in LA at various theatre's (Anne Deaver Smith for The Mark Tapor Forum), universities (including UCLA and USC) , colleges and churches.

In the film industry he has helped train academy award winner Christian Bale, Kristanna Loken, Illeanna Douglas, Ron Perlman, Jason Lewis, Eric Roberts, Elias Koteas, Crispin Glover, Trevor St. John, and others. Plus was the movement consultant/T'a Chi instructor to Robert Downey Jr and Jamie Foxx for Joe Wright's "The Soloist."

Sifu Oram and Goodwin met on the set of "The Dark Mist" about 15 years ago. Goodwin noticed Oram's sword work was exceptional and they started talking about how they trained swords with the same people, martial arts and Wing Chun. Shortly after that they met again on a pilot titled "Knight Life" where they were both stunt sword fighters.

All of the above led Sifu Oram to asking Goodwin to help him train Christian Bale for "Batman Begins" and work on the last Dredger fight in the first "Sherlock Holmes" film. They collaborated on the fight, camera angles and editing that fight.

When Sifu Oram opened his kwoon on Pico, Goodwin began renting space from him for his T'ai Chi school , Film Fighting classes and private lessons since then.

Goodwin will be appearing on a "The Best o LA", a History Channel 2 show next year that was shot by a film crew from the UK and he recently wrapped filmed a short, SAG film titled "Finding Bliss".
